Shakti Samantha, renowed  Film Producer  and  Director, has  given  many wonderful  films in span of  30 + years, and most of  films  were Known for  one Common thing, Very  nice music and melodious Songs. He  is credited  of  Playing a  Major  role in making  Rajesh Khanna, the  First  SUPER STAR.In this Count down  we  are  Leaving out  ALL  the  Super Hit films and  Songs  of  Shakti Samantha  and  look  at  melodious  Songs  he  has  given us  from his Other  films, With  this  Filter, we  are taking Out of  the  equation  some  super Hit Films, Like  Kashmir Ki Kali, An Evening in Paris, Aradhana, Kati Patang , Amar Prem, Ajanabee, Mehbooba ,Great  Gambler etc. So  let us  concentrate  on his  other  films and begin the Countdown, without wasting  any more  time   

 1)The  First  film  is HOWRAH BRIDGE,Produced  and Directed  by him, This Thriller film had Ashok Kumar  and  Beautiful Madhu Bala in the  lead,  but song i have  choosen is  Picturised on the sensuous Helen ( her  first  Dance  in Bollywood), Mera  Naam Hai Chin Chin Chu,  so nicely sung by Geeta  Dutt. Music  by OP Nayyar  and  Written by  Qamal Jallabaadi, and  their  combination was very popular   as  Composer-Lyricist. We should  remember  other  stunning song from this  film ,sung by Asha and  Picturised on Madhubala, Aiyee Meharbaan

 2) Next  film is  INSAAN JAAG UTHA  , one of lesser  known films of  Shakti, not a  success, had  Sunil Dutt  and  Madhubala  in the lead, Music  by SD Burman  and  Written By Shailedra, song I have choosen  is a  Female  Duet, sung by Asha and Geeta  Dutt,  Jaanu Jaanu Re  picturised on Madhubala and Minoo Mumtaz.

3)Next, JAALI NOTE a  film Shakti only Directed, as  name  itself  suggests, based on Counterfiet money, Starring Dev Anand  and  Madhubala, it had  hit music  by OP Nayyar and  songs  written by Raja Mehndi Ali Khan, most of  them were Asha-Rafi Duets, including one I have choosen, picturised on lead pair,  Chaand Sard Sard  Hai, Raat Sard  Sard Hai . Most of  Shakti  films  were  pure entertainers aimed  at  Making audience enjoy the films, very seldom  he  did Serious  or Social Relevant films, few exceptions  being like Amar  Prem .

4) Next  Film  is SINGAPORE  , Directed  by  him . This was one of  First Bollywood  film to be Shot outside  India, as  name  suggests  in Singapore, starring  Shammi Kapoor  and  South  Actress  Padmini. Not too famous  songs, the  song I am  putting is  a  rare  occasion  Mukesh  Sang for  Shammi, Yeh Sahar Bada  Albela, Music by Shankar  Jaikishan,  Gives  us  glimpse  of  the  Country  in 1960s, but is in Black  and  White

 5) CHINA  TOWN was  another  Shammi  film produced and  Directed  by Shakti, it had the  dancing hero  in a  double  role, Shakila and Helen were female  leads. While  film was  a  hit, Music  was  not so Popular, except for  Song I am  Putting, Baar Baar Dekho Hazarr Baar Dekho,  Sung by Mohd  Rafi. Music was  composed by Ravi, only time  he  composed  music  for a Shammi film, and  he had  to change  his  music style to suit the  image of  Shammi, songs were written by  Majrooh.

6)Next  film ( skipping Kashmir Ki Kali) is  SAAWAN  KI GHATA , produced  and Directed by  him, this has  Majoj Kumar, Sharmila (  remember  she was  Introduced  by Shakti opp Shammi in Kashmir Ki Kali) , and  Mumtaz.  Music  by OP Nayyar  and  written By  SH Bihari, Song I have choosen is one  with the Typical Tonga  Beats  of  OP,  Zara Haule  Haule  Chalo Mere Sajana ,sung By  Asha. It is said  most of  Songs  used in film  were  those  which were recorded  for  Shakti's previous  film  Kashmir Ki Kali and were  Not  used  in the  film.

7)  Next is PAGLA  KAHIN KAA jumping  into  1970s, now  and  Skipping  hit films  like   An Evening in Paris ,Aradhana, Kati Patang , this  film has  again  Shammi  and  Asha Parekh in the lead,film was  not a  commercial  success , but this  Song  Tum Mujhe  Bhulana  Na  Payoge by Mohd Rafi is Popular  even today, this  had  a  female  version by  Lataji.  Music  was by Shankar  Jaikishan and  songs  were written by  Hasrat Jaipuri

8)Skipping AMAR  PREM (perhaps best Musical  Film of  Shakti ) we  go to next  film, ANURAAG , a  very sensitive  film  about  a  Blind  Girl ( played  by Moushami , her debut) and Vinod  Mehra  was  the hero.Rajesh Khanna who had  become lucky mascot for  Shakti  by this time, not only played an extended Guest appearance  but also  Distributed  this  film. It  got lot of good  Reviews and  won the  Film fare Award  for best  Film also. Music was by SD Burman, Songs  written by  Anand Bakshi , and  Song I am putting  is  a  Lata Solo, Sun Re  Pawan, Pawan  Purubaiya.  This  film was remade in all south  Indian  Languages  and was  a  super  hit in all

 9) Next  film  is  another  lesser  Know  film,  CHARITRAHEEN , starring Sanjeev Kumar, Sharmila and Yogeeta,  Music by RD  Burman  and  songs  written by  Anand Bakshi, this has  a  Beautiful duet  Picturised  on Sanjeev  and  Sharmila  , Dil Se Dil  Mile Ka  Koi  Karaan Hoga

10)Skipping   Ajanebee, we  go to next  film,  which  is  AMANUSH, this  was  a  film which he produced and  directed  in Both  Bengali and  Hindi, starring  Uttam  Kumar  and Sharmila,  this  was a  super Hit , and  had  the  hugely popular  but sad  Song, Dil Aisa  Hai  Kisi Ne  Toda, sung by Kishore Kumar , which won  him a  Film Fare award  for best  Male  Singer.  Lyrics  by Indeeevar ( he also Got an award)  and  Music by Shymalal  Mitra. Worth remembering  here , Shakti  did  one more film with same  Lead  Pair, ANAND  ASHARM , but was a  flop and  this  too  had  a  very nice  song, a  Kishore  and  Asha  Duet, Saara  Pyar  Tumahara

11)Skipping  Mehbooba, let us  go to next  film  ANURODH  . Back  with Rajesh  Khanna, with Vinod Mehra  and  Ashok Kumar  to support, the selection of heroine  was  a  Big Controversy , Simple  Kapadia.  RK  was  romancing  his  real life  Sister  in law  on screen, which did  not go well  with the audience  and  this  film was  a moderate  success, . Another  change  was  Lakshmi Pyare  was  choosen  as composers , apparently Rajesh  had  some  differences with  Pancham, hence  this Change,  never  the  less  LP  did  a  fair job,  and  song I have  choose  is  Aap  Ki  Anurodh Pe , by Kishoreda,  other To note, solo by Kishore,  Aate  Jaate  Khubshoorat  , is  also  a  hit  song.  All  songs  Lyrics by Anand  Bakshi

12)Skipping , Great  Gambler, we  will  get  into 1980s  and  last  song  in this  Count  Down,  a  lesser  known Film  Called  KHWAAB  , this  film had  a  big  star cast, Mithun, Ranjeeta , Yogeeta Bali, Naseer, Aashok  Kumar  . First time  Shakti  worked  with Composer/ Lyricist , Ravindra  Jain.Putting  this  beautiful duet,  by Yesudas  and  HemaLatha, picturised  on  Mithun and  Ranjita , Hum Khwaab ko Badal Denge Haqqeeqat Mein

In  the  1980s Shakti  made  few  films, but none  of  them were  hits  or  Popular,  this included  Barsaat Ki  Ek  Raat  with Big  B and  Rakhee, and  Rajesh Khanna  produced  film  Alag Alag with RK, Tina  and  Shashi Kapoor. If you  see  my count down  above, the films  I have  skipped  all  are Super  hits  and  most of  them one had  one thing in Common, music  by RD Burman ,.some  of  the best  songs  of   Shakti Samnatha film  songs  were  composed  by  Pancham.

If  we  need  to choose,  ONE BEST  Song  from  Shakti  film, i would  choose  this  soulful  number from  AMAR PREM,  Chingaari  Ko  Badke,,...  What  will be your  Choice  ?
